E-Learning
This site provides strategic information as well as guidance and resources relating to e-learning at Surrey. It will be of particular relevance to University of Surrey staff who are interested in finding out more about e-learning or using it as part of their teaching, but also includes sections which will be of interest to students and external visitors.
E-Learning is ‘learning facilitated and supported through the use of information and communications technology’ and may involve the use of some or all of the following technologies:
- Desktop and portable computers
- Electronic communication tools, including discussion boards and chat facilities
- Virtual Learning Environments
- Classroom technologies, including interactive whiteboards and voting systems
- Mobile and wireless tools
- Computer-based audio and video conferencing tools
- E-portfolios
E-Learning can cover a spectrum of activities from supporting learning, to blended learning (the combination of traditional and e-learning practices), to learning that is delivered entirely online. Whatever the technology, however, learning is the vital element.
E-Learning is no longer simply associated with distance or remote learning, but forms part of a conscious choice of the best and most appropriate ways of promoting effective learning.
