4.0 E-Learning Unit

The E-Learning Unit

The E-Learning Unit provides a range of support, consultancy, resources and staff development courses on e-learning. We work with Faculties to develop their plans and ideas for e-learning, as well as working with individuals and course teams focusing on a particular module or programme. It is worth noting that the most successful projects have usually involved the e-learning unit from the outset and worked with us collaboratively throughout the development process, so please do come and talk to us about your initial ideas. Whatever your interest and ideas, we can assist you with all stages of:

  • Planning - redesigning your teaching and learning to include use of a particular technology
  • Developing your teaching – creating and structuring your ideas into reality
  • Delivery – supporting you and your students
  • Evaluation and reflection – refining your teaching for the next iteration

Please have a look at the services that we provide for more information.

The E-learning Unit also keeps a watching brief on new technologies and developments that could support teaching and learning. This involves setting up research and evaluation projects to investigate and trial new ideas, usually in partnership with interested Faculties. If successful and viable, we then seek to introduce these technologies and associated support for use across the university.
Please have a look at E-Learning Technologies for some of the current technologies we are focusing on, and contact us if you are interested in those or any other developments.

Alongside the innovation and development of teaching, it is crucial that we take time to reflect and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of e-learning, both for staff and students. We have been involved in several Faculty based studies and are also working on a university-wide evaluation (including making available a questionnaire which can be used in any module using e-learning) to provide a cross-institutional picture of e-learning.
