Voicemail
The University’s voicemail service is available free of charge to all users of digital and IP handsets. If you are currently using an analogue handset, please see the
Prices section for information on the cost of upgrading to a handset suitable for use with voicemail.
It cannot be used until the mailbox has been set up centrally, and if you wish to use the service you should contact your
Telephone Representative who can request that it is set up for you.
Voicemail users can retrieve their messages from their own extension by dialling 6000, from any other internal phone by dialling 9000, and from anywhere else by dialling 01483 689000 (+44 1483 689000 from overseas). If you are not dialling from your own extension, you need to press the # key as soon as the system answers.
The
Voicemail Manual will guide you through setting up your voicemail. Assistance can be found in the
FAQs section.

Speak@Ease
Speak@Ease is the University's automated internal telephone directory service. You tell the system the first name and surname of the person you want to call, and it uses speech recognition to process your request and puts you through to their extension.
The system is only set up to recognise people's names, and you must have the first name and surname. It will not understand titles such as 'Doctor' or 'Professor' and it cannot be used to contact Schools or Departments. Please use the
Internal Telephone Directory to look up numbers for Faculties and Departments.
To use the system you just need to dial
0 if you are at the University or
01483 686543 from an external number.
Speak@Ease uses text-to-speech software to read out the names on the database. If you don't like the way it reads out your name we can set up all people listed on the system to be able to log in to it and record their name in their own voice.
If you would like to be set up with this access, you need to choose a login ID. This has to be an 11 digit number starting with 0, so it is a good idea to use a memorable telephone number. Please e-mail your chosen number to the
IT User Support Desk. We will then set you up as a user and e-mail you your PIN and details about how to log into the system and record your name. Once you have set up your account, you can also access it over the intranet and do other things such as change your PIN, set up a personal list of numbers (internal only) and temporarily route your calls to a different internal number.

Incoming faxes to this number will be forwarded to a Faculty or Departmental machine where appropriate, or the recipient will be telephoned. It is the responsibility of the recipient to collect the fax or to authorise the operator to put it into the internal post.
Outgoing faxes may be sent from Media Services, situated in the ground floor of the George Edwards Library.

Loans & Hires
Minihubs
IT Services loans the minihub strictly under the following conditions:
- The user must return the minihub if they relocate, otherwise they will be charged for it.
- It is purely a temporary solution until the user moves offices or a new outlet is installed.
- Sharing one socket by using a minihub will make the network connection slower. If the user finds this causes problems they will have to pay for a new socket to be installed.
Conference Telephone
IT Services has a conference phone available for hire. This works on an analogue extension line and is suitable for use with several people seated around a table.
Visit the
Prices section for costs information.
