Research Administration Services

RAS (Research Administration Services) are being renamed as Research Finance (RF), which includes pre-award (Research Support), Post Award (Research Accountants) and Research, Studentships and OSR (Studentship & OSR Accountant team).

The Research Finance team is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive financial research support service to our academic staff and faculty administration at both pre-award and post-award stages.

Research income is acknowledged as a key facilitator and measure of research success and the University is committed to increasing significantly the value of new research grants and contracts over the next few years. The pre-award team dealt with approximately 520 bids during 2009/2010 with a value in excess of £106m.


Members of the RF pre-award team are allocated as main contact points for Faculties in the University with the exception of EC bids, where we have a specific contact point across the University.


Several members of the RF pre-award team have laptops so are able to meet academics within their own office, should this be preferred to cost their project using the University’s new research costing tool pFACT.

The Post award stage of RF ensures that grants and contracts are administered in accordance within agreed terms and financial budgets provided. Members of the RF post-award team are allocated as contact points for specific cost centres.

RF work closely with Research Enterprise Support (RES) specifically the legal team and the Bid Development Team.
