I want to bring a car to Guildford, where can I park?

Residents of Campus courts and Manor Park may not bring a car to Guildford because there is nowhere to park on or near to campus.
Parking is available for residents at Hazel Farm Residences (band A and B rooms) which is located about three miles from Campus.
There are a very limited number of parking spaces available at Bellerby Court which has band D rooms only. These places can be reserved after a room at Bellerby Court is confirmed on a first come, first served basis. The cost is likely to be in the region of £240 per year in 2010.

When will I hear about my accommodation?

For new students confirmation of room allocation will be emailed out during late August and early September – please be patient! and do not email or call us about a 'missing' allocation until 14 September.

How are rooms allocated?

Rooms are allocated to take account of your preferences and to get a balance of students in each area. Because the number of rooms in each Court are limited, it is not always possible to give everyone their top choices.

If I apply early will I have a better chance of getting the Court or type of room I want?

Sorry no, rooms are not allocated on a first come first served basis. See explanation above.

I would like an en-suite room, will I get one?

We have over 2500 en-suite rooms so there is a good chance of getting one.

I want to change the room I have been allocated how do I go about this?

We won’t change rooms in advance of your arrival.
When all new students have been housed, usually from December, residents may apply to join the waiting list for room changes.
Changing rooms depends on the availability of suitable rooms and so we regret it is not possible to guarantee a change to a particular room type or Court.

Is there a waiting list for room changes?

When all new students have been housed, usually from December, residents may apply to join the waiting list for room changes. It is not posible to join this waiting list until December.

What bedding is provided?

You will need to bring a duvet and single duvet cover, pillow(s), sheets, pillowcases and towels. Beds are 90 cm wide and 190cm long.

You may order a bedding pack to be delivered ready for your arrival if you prefer. Details in your allocation letter.

I want to know my postal address?

Your full postal address is on your allocation letter under Correspondence Address.

How will I find out the telephone number for my room?

The phone number will be displayed on the phone handset in the room. To protect your security we will not give out the telephone number of your room over the phone or by email in advance.

Do I have to send any deposit or payment in advance?

No. You will have time to pay or arrange payments after you arrive.

How do I pay my Rent?

See Pay for your room for information about paying Residence Fees.

I want to come to Guildford a few days early, can I move into my accommodation early?

If you are coming from overseas you may arrive up to three days early provided your room is available. You must check and agree this with the Accommodation Office in advance. If you are a home student, unless the circumstances are exceptional, you should plan to arrive on the day specified in your allocation letter.

Final Year students should note they are not able to arrive during Freshers Week unless we have been notified that they are working on Induction activities.

My parent/friend wants to come to Guildford when I move into accommodation. Can they stay at the University?

During the busy arrival periods we do not have any rooms spare for guests. Guildford can be extremely busy in September so it is essential your parents/friends book a place to stay well in advance. Hotels and Guest Houses

Can I send luggage in advance?

We advise you not to do this because the Courts of Residence do not have storage space for luggage. Please just bring a few essentials and arrange for shipped luggage to arrive a day or two after you come to Guildford.
